We are in the process of acquiring this farmland for Leyte villagers. Here we have the ability to grow rice, corn and coconut which should be harvestable every 3 months.
The land is approximately 3 Hectares in size and already has coconut ready for harvesting. At harvest the produce will be consumed by the villagers and surplus product will be sold at market, the proceeds of which will be used for further farming.

Leyte Village Festival – 26th July 2010
Independent of our efforts to offer support to our chosen charity SOS Children’s Villages, we have also started to engage in some additional events that offer support to areas yet to be discovered by this charity.
As a result, Jigsaw recently supported an event in Leyte province, Philippines, where we have been able to identify poverty and lack of child support that needs urgent attention.
One situation particularly touched our hearts, which unfortunately is all too common in this region – let me share it with you:
A 36 year old mother of 5, whom herself is in poor health (potentially TB) and living with all of her children in one small shack as a single mother, said that she tends to her farm land, which we now know consists of a small piece of land that she can grow Okra and other small vegetables, but needs help to support her children whilst she is helping to produce the food that they need as a family to survive. The biggest issue for her is that when she is farming she has no one to care for the youngest children and as a result her older children are not attending school to help support in this role. And even if the older children could attend school, they have no money for school uniforms, the books and paper required for lessons and though once in a while other villagers might be in the position to help out, the outcome always reverses back to the same thing.
To help to change this, we have now brought together the above lady’s Sister and her children to live under one roof – we have helped to extend their property to accommodate all children and mothers and have started plans to open a small Karaoke business so that one of the mothers can earn money to support the household whilst the other looks after the younger children. We intend to also buy additional land for Coconut harvests, corn and rice. This we are currently negotiating.
We have also now donated funds to support all older children through school for the next 12 months and intend to do this until they graduate – these children will also help to harvest the Coconut, Corn and Rice in after school hours, school holidays and weekends.
With a little support from us these children have a chance to make a life for themselves through education and the mothers get the support they need to keep a close knit family.
The below pictures are of an event put on by us to give a welcomed break to all villagers from their daily toil.
The villagers do have an annual festival in April which is the only event a year that enables them to all get together – see for yourself what a simple gesture of food and a little fun can do to lift everyones spirits:-

Jigsaw Wealth Management have chosen to volunteer, support, sponsor and donate to SOS Children, the world's largest orphan and abandoned children's charity. Child sponsors and donors worldwide provide a new family and home for more than 78,000 children in 500 unique Children's Villages in 124 countries. The charity also help’s a million children and their families through SOS community outreach programmes.
About the charity:
SOS Children: Offering real child sponsorship
SOS Children offer real child sponsorship. Our sponsors and donors help children whose parents are not there for them. They may be AIDS orphans, street children, child soldiers or children orphaned by war, poverty or natural disasters. We give these children a mother and a family in a home within an SOS Children's Village. Donations pay to build the Villages and run them until child sponsors cover the running costs. Where family life is at risk (for example where parents in Africa have AIDS), we run programmes to help strengthen them and keep them together.
“Our strategic goal for the next eight years is to help a million child sponsors give a million children a family life. Of these, one hundred thousand children will be given a new family and home in an SOS Children's Village. Nine hundred thousand children, who might otherwise be street children, will be able to grow up within their own (extended) family
with our support”.
